About ORVIA

ORVIA exists to keep the person at the centre.

Independent, human-centred safeguarding, governance and operational oversight — with the discipline to say what we see and the boundaries to know what we’re not.

The ORVIA ecosystem palette

Six colours. Six parts of the work.

Oversight · Navy

Considered judgement

Steady, honest, evidence-first. The colour of the calm read.

Threshold · Teal

Controlled entry

Where evidence is taken in with care and the record begins.

Safeguarding · Gold

Dignity kept intact

The person at the centre — never a case number.

Academy · Purple

Learning that lasts

Practice built on reflection, not on slogans.

Foundation · Orange

Public interest

Access for those who cannot otherwise reach it.

Witness Room · Green

Dignity in evidence

Where people are prepared to speak with calm, not performance.

Where ORVIA sits

Between informal support and formal professional intervention.

ORVIA is more structured than help from friends, family, colleagues, general advocacy or signposting — but it is not a solicitor, barrister, clinician, regulator, investigator or statutory decision-maker. We organise, review and prepare the available evidence so the appropriate professional can act within their own role.

Stage 1

Informal support

Friends, family, colleagues. May help a person explain what happened, but no controlled evidence preparation.

Stage 2

General support

Advocates, charities, signposting. Assists access and communication.

ORVIA

Structured evidence preparation

Chronology, evidence index, source record, contradictions, gaps and professional questions — ready for the next authorised professional.

Stage 4

Formal professional action

Solicitors, clinicians, commissioners, regulators, insurers. The authorised professional decides or acts within their competence.

Not legal advice. Not informal opinion. Structured evidence preparation before professional action. ORVIA does not claim the evidence is perfect or complete — it states what the available evidence supports, what it does not support and what remains unresolved. Preparation may help you use professional time more efficiently; savings cannot be guaranteed.
John McGill, ORVIA Oversight founder and Group Chief Executive

John McGill · Founder & Group Chief Executive

I set up ORVIA because too much attention gets placed on proving that paperwork has been completed, while the person receiving care can disappear from view. Twenty-plus years across leadership, healthcare and safeguarding taught me that the honest read is almost always the most useful one — and the least often given.

ORVIA is my attempt to institutionalise that honest read. It is not a consultancy, a franchise or a white-label. It is an independent organisation with a single job: to look where others have stopped looking, and to say what needs saying.

What ORVIA means

ORVIA is our method, made into a name: Observation · Reflection · Visibility · Insight · Accountability. It is how we look at every concern, and how we structure every review.

The principles we work to

  • Human Reality Principle. Every decision returns to the likely effect on the person at the centre — the child, adult, family, employee.
  • Human Approval Principle. Significant decisions are made by named humans. AI and analytics support but never replace that.
  • Accountability without fear. We record decisions traceably. The reviewer stands behind the review.
  • Independence as a discipline. Our conclusions are not for sale. Commercial engagement funds the work; it does not shape the finding.
  • Honesty about limits. We are not a regulator, court, solicitor or emergency service. When another route is right, we say so.

Governance boundaries

ORVIA does not hold statutory authority. We do not act as legal representatives. We do not replace safeguarding agencies. Our reports are independent findings intended to inform decisions — not to compel them. Where a matter needs to move to police, regulator, local authority or court, we say so plainly and support that referral.

Where AI fits

We use AI tools to organise evidence, surface patterns and draft structured findings. Every ORVIA output is reviewed and owned by a named human. AI does not decide who is at risk, who is culpable, or what an ORVIA finding says. That’s the whole point.

The wider organisation

ORVIA Oversight Ltd is the trading entity behind our current services. Other parts of the ORVIA ecosystem — Threshold, Academy, Foundation — are separate developments that reference the same method and principles but are governed as distinct offerings. Where those offerings are not yet live, they are marked clearly on this site.

Safeguarding starts and ends with the person. Everything else is admin.

Proud to stand with those who serve

ORVIA Oversight overview: a family on the left, five UK service personnel on the right beneath a Union Flag, and the ORVIA Method engine in the centre — Observation, Reflection, Visibility, Insight, Accountability. Evidence inputs on the left, actionable outputs on the right. Respect, Integrity, Support, Together. Proud to stand with those who serve our country, their families and the wider public services. Better evidence, better decisions, a safer, fairer future.
