How the website is made accessible and how to report a barrier.
Our commitment
ORVIA wants everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard only, magnification or speech input. Many of the people who need ORVIA are under stress, and an inaccessible page is a barrier to being heard.
Standard we aim for
This website is designed to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 at level AA.
What we have built in
- One clear H1 on each page, with headings in a logical order.
- Body text at a minimum of 17px on desktop and 16px on mobile, with a comfortable measure.
- Visible focus indicators on every link, button and menu control.
- A skip link to the main content.
- Navigation menus that work by touch and by keyboard, close with the Escape key and report their open or closed state to assistive technology.
- No horizontal scrolling at 320px, 375px, 390px and 430px widths.
- Text alternatives for meaningful images; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
- Colour combinations tested for contrast, with navy text used on ORVIA gold.
- Reduced-motion preferences respected.
How this website has been tested
Testing to date has been carried out by the ORVIA build team, not by an independent accessibility auditor. It has covered manual keyboard navigation, visible focus, heading structure, colour contrast and horizontal overflow at 320px, 375px, 390px, 430px, tablet and desktop widths, across the homepage, the Oversight core pages, the specialist environment pages and the legal pages.
Launch gate. This statement must record the exact date of testing, the tools used, the pages sampled, any known non-compliance and a remediation date, and it should be supported by an independent audit including testing with a screen reader. That must be completed before this website begins collecting enquiries or evidence. ORVIA does not claim full WCAG 2.2 AA conformance until that testing is complete.
Known limitations
- Independent screen reader testing has not yet been carried out, so undiscovered issues are likely.
- Some pages carry launch-gate notices rather than final content, which may be confusing to read.
- Downloadable documents are not yet published; when they are, each must meet the same standard.
